Constructivism as an Accelerated Learning Approach
To construct = to build. We build on your knowledge of English to help you remember French words. The principle here is that it is easier for you to remember 10 new words in a language you know as compared to remembering 3 new words in an unfamiliar language.

Here is an easier way to remember the verbs TO BE (être) and TO HAVE (avoir).

If you know English, you already know 30% French!
We make maximum use of our student's knowledge of English to learn French language.

If you know English, you already know 30% French! Students with prior knowledge of a European language (such as English, Italian or Spanish) progress much faster when learning French compared to those who do not know a European language.
Don’t let your knowledge of English go wasted.
We find it a waste of useful resources to use only French in a class of complete beginners who are good in English, as is the case in Singapore.

This approach of using no other language but French in class (called the Direct Method) works very well in an immersion context.

In French immersion courses conducted in France, the students come from all over the world, they do not share a common language, and they live in a French-speaking community. However, in the context of Singapore, we find it inappropriate and counter-productive to use the Direct Method to teach French language.
Talking only French to beginners: An attempt at Suicide.
From experience, we find using only French in a class of complete beginners can create a feeling of isolation.

Especially among students who are not in their comfort zone when it comes to learning languages. We find it more effective to gradually cut down on English as students progress from intermediate to advanced level in French.
It's easier to relate to a bilingual teacher.
Many of our Singaporean students tell us they find it easier to relate to 'a tutor who speaks their language'.

A tutor who is functionally bilingual in both French and English can understand how students think and can better help them learn from their mistakes when they translate ideas literally from English to French.
