Learning Philosophy Research shows that learning a language is an effortless process during the critical "window of opportunity" period (from birth to about age 12). It happens naturally just as babies learn to speak their first language or walk.

A young child’s facial muscles are not set and it is the period of imitation, thus better pronunciation can be obtained. It is easy for a child to pronounce the French ‘u,’ if the sound is presented correctly, yet it is practically impossible for adults who begin the language to get this sound.
